Wednesday 8th May saw the new cohort of 1st Year students arrive at St. Clare’s Comprehensive School, Manorhamilton for their first taste of secondary school life.
This group who will commence second level education in September were met by the School Principal, Ms. Kelly, Deputy-Principal, Ms. Mc Gowan and the 1st Year Transition Coordinator, Ms. Fahey, along with the 5th Year Student Mentor group who engaged with them on entry, directing them to their first ever secondary school welcome assembly.
School staff assisted by the Mentor group worked throughout the day with the 6th class pupils as they experienced their first day of secondary school with its wide spectrum of subject areas and many different teachers.
Students received a broad exposure to the range and type of subjects available at St. Clare’s Comprehensive School over the course of the day and learned the layout of the school building through moving from class to class under the guidance of the Mentors. Students also experienced, and enjoyed, the school canteen and engaged in some practical classes such as Music, P.E., Science, Spanish, Technical Graphics, as well as the core subjects of English, Maths, History and Geography.
New friendships and new connections were made during a busy day of classes, practical experience and exposure to a new way of school life. We are delighted to welcome all of our new 1st Year students to St. Clare’s Comprehensive School. We hope you will be very happy with us and we wish you every success and fulfilment as you set out on your second level educational journey with us.
