On Tuesday, 2nd December, students had the wonderful opportunity to take part in a captivating music workshop delivered by the Irish National Opera Company (INO). The session was facilitated by Sarah Baxter (Director) and Paddy Jo Malpas (Studio & Outreach Executive), who guided the group with warmth, expertise, and infectious enthusiasm.
Students were treated to a live performance by INO Tenor Will Pearson, whose powerful vocals filled the room and left a lasting impression on everyone present. Accompanied by pianist Leonard Dorian, the music brought opera to life in an exciting and accessible way.
The workshop offered a lively mix of activities, from vocal warm-ups to interactive demonstrations—complete with some unexpected circus tricks! Students were fully engaged throughout and especially enjoyed the open discussions with Sarah, Will and Paddy Jo, who encouraged thoughtful questions and helped demystify the world of opera, while also informing students about their training and qualifications and opportunities for different careers in music and drama.
A huge thank you to Sarah, Will, Leonard and Paddy Jo for such an inspiring and educational experience. Special thanks also to Brendan Murray in the Glens Centre for his support in making this workshop possible. Our students walked away with new skills, broadened musical horizons, and a deeper appreciation for the art of opera.
