St. Clare’s Comprehensive enjoyed a hugely successful and spirited day at the North Connacht Schools Cross-Country Championships in the scenic but demanding setting of Lough Key Forest Park. A total of 42 runners proudly represented the school, tackling difficult underfoot conditions and a technically challenging course with determination and resilience. Their commitment ensured that the school was represented with distinction throughout the event.
Standout Individual Performances
Three exceptional performances lit up the day for St. Clare’s Comprehensive. Caoimhe Murphy claimed a superb third place in the Minor Girls race. Greg Lyons delivered a dominant run to win the Intermediate Boys race in a very strong field. Lucas Lyons produced an outstanding performance to take first place in the Senior Boys race. These athletes deserve special congratulations for their medal-winning achievements.
Team Success and Connacht Final Qualification
St. Clare’s Comprehensive is delighted to have three teams qualifying for the Connacht Finals in Galway in three weeks’ time.
Minor Boys – 3rd Place Team. A brilliant collective effort secured a podium finish for the Minor Boys. The team included: Jan Golas, Simon McDonald, Brion Cullen,Daire McAuley, Cian Rooney, Conor McGrath, Owen Reynolds, Liam Fitzpatrick Calvo
Intermediate Boys – 3rd Place Team. Another excellent team performance saw the Intermediate Boys also finish third overall. The team was made up of: Oisín Fee, Eoghan Rooney, Padraic Cullen, Daniel Rooney, Greg Lyons, Mark Malaniff
Senior Boys – 1st Place Team. A fantastic achievement saw the Senior Boys team take first place in their race, showcasing strength, consistency, and teamwork. Outstanding running from:Sean Gilmartin, Sean Brady, Aaron McNulty, Lucas Lyons, Aidan Dolan
Additional Individual Qualifiers
Alongside the team successes, St. Clare’s Comprehensive also celebrated excellent individual performances, with two more athletes qualifying for the Connacht Finals in the individual category: Emily Flanagan in the Junior Girls and Sarah Mulvaney‑Kelly in the Intermediate Girls.
Every athlete contributed to a memorable day for the school. Their teamwork, spirit, and perseverance in tough conditions reflect the very best of our students. Congratulations to all participants who represented the school and best of luck to all qualifiers in the Connacht Final in Galway on Tuesday 3rd February.
