St Clare’s U15 Girls Show Great Spirit in National Cup Final

St Clare’s Comprehensive School put in a spirited and determined performance but were ultimately defeated 3-1 after extra time by Gallen Community School (Offaly) in Monday’s FAI Schoolgirls Under-15 National Cup Final in Athlone.

It was a tightly contested encounter from the outset, with both sides showing composure and quality on the ball. St Clare’s matched their opponents throughout normal time, and the sides were level at 1-1 at the final whistle after an evenly balanced and hard-fought 60minutes.

However, in extra time, Gallen added two more goals to seal a 3-1 victory and claim the national title.

Despite the result, St Clare’s can take immense pride in their journey this season. The team not only reached the FAI Schoolgirls U15 National ‘B’ Cup Final, but also secured the Connacht Schoolgirls soccer title—an outstanding achievement that reflects their talent, commitment, and teamwork throughout the campaign.

After the match, team coach Breda Cremins spoke to reporter Kevin Egan, praising the players for their effort, resilience, and the way they represented their school on a national stage.

The school would also like to extend sincere thanks to those who supported the team this season. Special appreciation goes to Pete and Sarah from XL in Blacklion for kindly sponsoring refreshments, the local Credit Union for sponsoring the team tops, and Mc Governs Transport for providing the team t-shirts. Their support played a valuable role in making this journey possible.

A special word of thanks also goes to Anthony McDonald in coaching the players alongside Ms Cremins this year. His commitment and support were invaluable to the team’s success. Ms Doherty’s additional support in helping with training sessions was also greatly appreciated.

A special thank you to Ms Gallagher for creating the team booklet, a wonderful keepsake that captures the students’ highlights and will preserve lasting memories of the year.

Finally, the team would like to acknowledge and thank all the staff of Clare’s Comprehensive School for their continued encouragement and support throughout the year.
