As the 2025/2026 academic year draws to a close, the Mentor group at St. Clare’s Comprehensive School saw their year of mentoring 1st Year students reach its conclusion.
This group of 5th Year students volunteered their time and talents to helping our 1st Year student cohort make the transition from primary to second level education in September 2025. They are the latest group of senior students to complete the year of Mentor work in the school following the 27 year long tradition of the Mentor Programme in the school.
Having completed the application and selection process with Ms. Fahey, the group then participated in the training programme given by Ms Paula Hargadon (HYLS). Following this, they engaged in the 1st Year Transition Programme offered in the school specifically for in-coming 1st Year students, the main aim being to help the students settle well into their new school community, make friends, engage with learning and be happy in this new environment.
Mentors work with Ms. Fahey in all aspects of the 1st Year Transition Programme, helping with the implementation of the various activities carried out with the 1st Year group from September to December, taking a very active role in the Open Evening (October), conducting tours of the school, engaging with prospective students and parents, and generally acting as ambassadors for the school community. They are a very important part of the Welcome Day for in-coming 1st Year students in May and are working with our new 1st Year group very practically once the new school year commences in late August.
We wish to say a big thank you to the Mentor Group of 2025/2026 for all their help in the past academic year and we wish them well as they progress to Leaving Certificate year.
