The 3rd Year and TY groups at St. Clare’s Comprehensive recently attended “All That Glitters”, one of the new films to reach the general public and showing at the 13th Adaptation Film Festival in the Glens Centre, Manorhamilton.
Peter Lavery’s All That Glitters is a heartfelt coming-of-age comedy about Ryan, a teenager struggling to find his place at school and at home with his father, who happens to be his English teacher. The film which premiered at this year’s Dublin Film Festival was co-produced by Manorhamilton-based company Bandit Films (est by Johnny Gogan).
This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to view a completely new film that spoke directly to the social and emotional difficulties of teenage years. An audience of any age could easily identify with the various challenges faced by the characters as they sought to navigate the sometimes stormy waters of adolescence.
A Zoom call interview and a Q&A session with the film director, Peter Lavery, gave the viewing an extra dimension, allowing audience members to gain access to the real details behind the production and the journey from conception to completion to showing.
The students were immersed in the world of the film and greatly enjoyed the experience, giving it resounding approval as the last scene dimmed.
