TY visit the Sculpture Centre

On Tuesday 11th March a group of TY students and their teacher, Ms Faughnan, visited the local ‘Leitrim Sculpture Centre, where Richard Cavalero, the Finance and Operations Manager, gave the Transition year Students a tour of the centre and invited them into all workshop rooms and creative design rooms. It was obvious that a unique strength of the Centre is its wide range of technical resources, supports and space existing within the same complex and available for artistic development and creative practice. The students were then invited into their live exhibition of ‘Keeping the Secrets’ by John Byrne. The exhibition relies heavily on sods of turf and Byrne states ‘it becomes our Hiding Place but also a prayer for our salvation, provided we cultivate it for our benefit and that of our environment.’ The students got to experience the artworks all while listening to the creator and getting answers to any questions they may have. The transition year students are working on a documentary based on Manorhamilton and were thrilled to visit and experience the local art.
